NEC Classic Motorshow 2017 – bigger than ever!
Classic car enthusiasts from all over the UK and beyond gathered at Birmingham’s NEC to celebrate another fantastic year for the classic car world and once again, Hamilton Classic were on hand to chat to enthusiasts about how best to use our car covers to protect vehicles from the elements during the winter months.
Furthermore, the NEC Classic Motorshow is the ideal opportunity to show off our range of event shelters in order to demonstrate not only the quality but also the versatility of our current range. Hamilton Classic also announced the introduction of full carpet sets with a choice of both premium and wool grades on offer as well as over 1,000 patterns for a huge variety of classic cars.
The event, now in its 33rd year attracted huge crowds once again who poured over the 2,500 vehicles on display. Show Director Lee Masters said:
“Our thanks go to all of the classic motoring clubs, who not only support the event but pull out all of the stops year after year to bring the most amazing vehicles to the show.”
The Meguiar’s Club Showcase saw 16 stunning classics put under the judges’ spotlight with Ian Matthews from Sutton Coldfield and his 1959 Morris Mini crowned the winner, making it a win for Mini owners two years in a row. The winner of the TR Register Masterclass was also entered, Graham Andrews with his stunning Triumph Italia which brought a rare attraction to the line up.
Sporting Bears’ Dream Rides raised £35,000 offering around 1,000 rides in exchange for a donation to children’s charities. The most popular car of the Dream Rides garage was Clive Gosling’s 700bhp Supercharged Ford Mustang which hardly stopped over the three show days.
Silverstone Auctions saw £3.6million change hands as 67% of the lots were sold (all inclusive). Biggest seller of the weekend was the 1996 Lamborghini Diablo SE30 RHD £281,750. The 2004 Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale sold at £158,700 while the 1988 Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 saw the hammer down at £112,500.
Also of interest, was the re-launch of the famous Duckhams Oil brand back to the UK after it disappeared years ago. The launch included legendary BTCC driver Karl Jones interviewed by Wayne Scott as well as an original works DTM Ford Cosworth RS500, similar to the BTCC car Karl Jones drove in the late 1980s.
Alastair Flack, from Hamilton Classic was in the trade area alongside his TR7V8 rally car, on display in a bit of a mangled state! The show provided the perfect opportunity to announced a crowd funding initiative to return our much loved TR7V8 rally car to the road after a spectacular crash caused extensive damage during the Jersey Rally a few weeks earlier. The crowd funding campaign offers the chance for individuals and businesses to purchase sponsorship space on the vehicle for displaying personal messages, business logos and dedications.
